This song came through in response to a request for a Thanksgiving themed song. I remember when I was small hearing things like “we should be grateful” at Thanksgiving. I didn't feel grateful. What I really felt was overwhelmed by the large groups and the hustle and bustle to get everything to the table in appropriate timing. I felt empty looking at the huge mountains of food. I assumed that I was probably deficient in the gratitude department. Now I realize that I’m just programmed to appreciate different things. This year, for example, choosing a quiet day at my home with my little boys and my husband, I feel grateful for the spaciousness and the peace. I tend to feel very internal this time of the year and while I love spending time with my dear friends, I also cherish a full day with nothing scheduled. Feeling gratitude for little things -- the last brilliant red leaves that are hanging on to the tree in our backyard and for the cool air and sunlight, for the fact that stuffing is really easy to make (just add hot water). And for the ability to learn a lesson of ease and grace (no one in our family really loves turkey. We can do without it next year). What are you thankful for today?
